Viola Faye Jones (Nana), was born on June 14, 1924 in Waco Texas. She married the late
William Horace Jones (Papa) on July 19, 1943 in the chapel of Brooklyn Navy Base in New
York and was happily married for 62 years.
Viola had to be two roles as a mommy and daddy while her husband was overseas serving in the
Navy. They moved every two years going from New Orleans, to Virginia, to Chicago, to Boston,
to Indiana then finally was brought back to Waco, Texas; where her journey began.
Then in 1987 she moved to Wichita Falls to be closer to her family because family was
everything to her. Viola and her late husband, Bill Jones were charter members of Colonial Baptist Church and they were servants for many years. She loved the Lord and read her Bible daily. She loved her beautiful yard, flowers, and watching all the different birds. She was always after Papa to groom
it just perfectly. Nana was best known for her good ole cooking. We all remember all the good times when she would cook her fried chicken, potato salad and what we all loved the best was her homemade
chocolate pudding and banana pudding served in her little brown bowls.
Along with her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband, William Horace Jones, her
sister Betty Jean Garner, her brothers Raymond Smith and Alfred Smith.
Nana leaves behind her precious family that she loved with all her heart. Her daughter, Carolyn
Sullivan and Carolyn’s late husband Dwayne Sullivan. Her brother, Eddie Smith and his wife
Joann. Her three grandchildren that became her world. Steve Sullivan and his wife Karrie,
Ronnie Sullivan and his wife Ceci, Kimberly Bowmer and her husband Robert Bowmer. Also
her five great grandchildren that she adored with all her heart. Elton Sullivan, Conor Sullivan,
Larry Sullivan and his wife Jess, Christopher Bowmer and Ashley Bowmer. Viola (Nana) was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. We will all miss her dearly, but we all know that we will all be back together again one day. We would like to give a “Special Thank You” to Brookdale Senior Living of Wichita Falls and their loving staff and nurses for making “Mrs. Viola’s” life this past year the best that it could be.
An “Extra Special Thank You” to John, Brookdale’s bus driver for the lovely scenic drives
during all the doctor’s visits. We also want to thank Beyond Faith for their loving care they
provided these past two years, to Heritage for bringing over the necessary things to make Viola’s
life easier, and most importantly, Hospice for making her last days as comfortable as they could
be.
