

He was born on a farm outside of Boise City, OK on May 5, 1931 to William Davis & Cora Mae (Craig) Sanders. Wallace was a graduate and valedictorian of Keyes High School in Keyes, Oklahoma in 1949. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma (OU) in General Studies, earning a medical degree (MD) from the University of Oklahoma in 1956. He later specialized in Opthalmology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, training under Dr. Jack Guyton, a renowned eye surgeon. Dr. Guyton selected him as his chief resident in training during his time at Henry Ford Hospital. Wallace served in the military as a Captain in the U. S. Air Force at George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA.
He practiced as an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) in Wichita Falls, TX for nearly thirty years.
Towards the end of his practice he also enjoyed attending family reunions, which he continued attending during his retirement, spending 12 years in Cloudcroft, NM enjoying the mountains, reading, playing golf, driving his “Bobcat” loader, road trips in the western US with his friends, OU sports, and his grandchildren.
Wallace was preceded in death by his wife Mozelle (Pitts) Sanders in 1981, and later Janet (Pillsbury) Sanders in 2017, as well as his brothers, Wesley, William, and Thomas, and sisters, Mattie Letha, Nina Mae, and Ella Mae.
Wallace is survived by his sons, Rob (Debbie) of Austin, TX, Sam (Lynelle) of Lubbock, TX, Sterling (Linda) of Graham, TX, and step children, Suzanne (Mark) Osterburg of Germany and Jim Pillsbury (Laura) of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by several grandchildren, Craig Andrew (Taylor Mills), Sterling Robert (Samantha Voll), Tyler William (Melody Woodard), Robyn Mozelle, Chad Wasson, Kathryn Nana (Jacob) Goodner, one step grand-child, Saskia Osterburg, one great grandchild, Collins Rose Sanders, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls, TX.
