Weldon Daniels, age 85, of Lakeside City, Texas, passed away on May 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 4, 1938, in Argo, Texas, and was married to his highschool sweetheart, Alice, for 62 years.
Known for his gentle spirit and bright smile, Weldon earned the affectionate nickname "Mr. Frito" while serving as District Sales Manager for Frito-Lay for 25 years. He will be remembered for his barbeques and fish fries, his warm hospitality, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. His unwavering kindness, passion for family, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Weldon and Alice loved to travel, and drove all across the United States in their RV, competing in chili cook-offs and winning over hearts. They were also members of the Elks Lodge, where they contributed to charitable volunteer work. Together with friends, they started the Santa Bus, donating Christmas gifts to those in need. He brought flowers to Alice’s grave each week after her passing, and now as we envision their reunion in heaven, we see him handing her a big bouquet of her favorite Miranda Lambert roses.
Weldon loved spending time on the lake, believed you were never alone if you had a good book, and took great joy in nurturing his garden. On game days, you could be sure to find him cheering on the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, or Dallas Mavericks. His homemade jellies, jams, baked goods, candies, and salsa were favorites among friends and family. The handmade birthday cards he made will be forever cherished by all.
Weldon was predeceased by his wife, Alice Daniels, their beloved dog Buddy, daughter Kathy Williams, parents Alvin and Emma Ruth, siblings Othelia Angarone, Nelda Chitwood, Helen Easley, and Kenneth Daniels, and son-in-law David (Dave) Akin.
He is survived by his sister Judy Mitchell (Clint), brother Royce Daniels (Geraldine), and children Donna Perkins (George), Terry Daniels (Kay), and Janet Akin (Joe Holley). He leaves behind ten grandchildren: Joshua Williams, Jessica Williams, Heith Daniels (Lauren), Amanda Daniels Ross (Benton), Jake Sauls (Ashley), Shane Sauls (Jessica), Shawn Sauls (Kya), Brittany Sauls, Jennifer Hobbs, and Jeremy Wenniger as well as 23 great-grandchildren: Donovan, Joshua, Trevor, Noah, Kayleigh, Ryan, Kyler, Blake, Aaralynn, Rylee, Kayden, Emma, London, Zelda, Audra, Hannah, Willow, Arlo, Luke, Taven, Calum, Madelyn, and Preston. He also leaves behind four great-great-grandchildren, Donovan Jr, Aria, Briar, and Ralee, and is lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, friends, and their families.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, a cause that Weldon held close to his heart.
May Weldon's memory be a blessing to us all.
