Silkey, Beryl, 69, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Friday December 28, 2018 at her home in Wichita. Beryl was born the daughter of Lawrence and Willette Silkey on May 20, 1949 in North Hempstead, New York. Beryl Silkey and Patrick Butler were united in marriage on January 17, 1987 in Wichita. Beryl graduated from New York University at Stony Brook and later received her Masters degree at John Hopkins School of Public Health. She was a research scientist at KU Medical Center of Wichita and Via Christi Research Institute. Her work included grant writing and the design of scientific research. As a member of the American Sewing Guild, she lead events to provide over 300 gowns to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and 500 kits for Days for Girls. Beryl enjoyed baking and sewing with her grandchildren. Beryl was a gentle spirit whose kindness inspired all those around her. Beryl was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her loving husband; Patrick Butler, children; Alia (Bradley) Kottas, Dawn (Jason) Bircher, step-daughter; Elizabeth (Alex) Kent, brother; Philip (Evelyn) Silkey, Christopher Silkey, grandchildren; Grace Kottas, Jacob Kottas, Jackson Bircher, Lucy Bircher, Penny Kent, Nixon Kent, nieces and nephews; Cymne Silkey, Britt Silkey and Jason Silkey. Celebration of life services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita.
