Carr, Betty Victoria (Millspaugh), born May 13, 1923, fell asleep peacefully in death Monday evening, August 6, 2012. She is survived by her four children: Thomas, Kenneth, Lucinda, and Vicki and their mates. She was deeply loved by her many grandchildren and their children. She also has several nieces and nephews as well as dear friends. Betty loved to laugh as she loved people and trusted them. She readily noticed the goodness in others and she appreciated their talents. While the four children were still very young she volunteered her time by painting landscapes on the walls of several churches in Wichita. Music was part of who she was. She taught her children to sing well before they had begun school. Betty taught her children to show love for God by her example of generosity, empathy, and faith. Her words and actions spoke a clear message. Despite not having graduated from high school, (she had to work full time), she supported her family by creating the only wedding service of its kind in the Midwest, “Carr’s Wedding City,” of Oklahoma City. Betty finally got her GED when she was in her seventies, and hoped to pursue computer science. She put the welfare and safety of her family above all else, even at great sacrifice to herself. She was never a burden to anyone in her later years, a thing she desired never to be. Betty Carr was a courageous woman and she lived a valiant life. She never gave up when life was full of problems. Instead, she gave her children a sterling example of endurance and hope. Although Betty’s home had been in the Birmingham, AL area for the last decade or more, she was born and grew up in southern Kansas. Visitation will be at Hillside
Funeral Home, 935 N. Hillside, Sunday, August 12 from 3-5 p.m. Graveside Service, 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, Dexter (Kansas) Cemetery, Dexter, Kansas.
