Cynthia Jo Schroeder, lovingly known as Cindy, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Derby, Kansas, at the age of 69. Born in Emporia, Kansas, on March 4, 1956, Cindy was the daughter of John Ronald Zumalt and Mary Jane “Brown” Zumalt.
Cindy graduated from Southeast High School in 1974 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University in 1978, where she was a proud member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Her career as an engineer included notable roles at Boeing and Bombardier Aerospace, where she was respected for her dedication and expertise.
Cindy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Steven "Steve" Schroeder; her brother, Brian Zumalt his wife Gwen, and their daughter Kera; her children, Tamara Doesken and Richard Doesken; and many extended family members and friends.
Cindy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Faith Lutheran Church, where she found spiritual comfort and community. Her love for butterflies, chocolate, science fiction and mystery shows, and her grand dogs brought joy to those around her. She enjoyed tennis, swimming, bowling, reading, and attending Music Theatre of Wichita, as well as visiting Botanica and the Sedgwick County Zoo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Zumalt, and daughter-in-law, Shasta Voth.
Cindy will be remembered as the kindest person—always caring for others and putting their needs before her own.

A graveside service for Cynthia will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Lakeview Cemetery in the Garden of Everlasting Life, 12100 E. 13th Street N., Wichita, Kansas 67206.
