

D. Nadine (West) Kinney, age 96, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Nadine became a professional singer at an early age and after winning a singing contest she was selected to travel with the Hormel Girls singing group and toured the country with them in the 1940s. Nadine sang on the radio on the "Nadine and Raymond Show" in Wichita during the 1940s and Nadine moved to Chicago thereafter and sang with various big bands and jazz combos. Nadine later taught herself speedwriting working as an executive secretary and later worked as a secretary in Hobart, Indiana for a local university. After retiring from singing and public service, she moved back to her hometown of Wichita where she continued to sing at local establishments. She was an avid bridge player and animal lover frequently donating to local animal charities. She was a breast cancer survivor and well into her 80s Nadine was known by her family to enjoy her daily 4 o'clock martini. Nadine is preceded in death by her mother, Donna (Ballenger) Crawford and stepfather Ward Crawford; husband, Lorenz Kinney, Sr.; infant sister, June Crawford; siblings, Duane Crawford and Lorene Morrison. Survivors include: brother, Chester and wife, Frances Crawford, of Illinois; sister-in-law, Kathleen Crawford, of Wichita. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita.
