

Dennis Lee Jones, age 68 passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021. He was born on March 21, 1953 in Springfield, Mo to Robert Wayne James and Faye Marlene McAlister Jones. They moved to Wichita in December 1953 where he attended Riverview elementary, Pleasant Valley middle school and Heights high school.
He worked all his life with his hands. From the grocery stores to a cleaning crew. In 1971 he went to work at Dubuque Packing where he occasionally lugged beef but ended up in the area where he cut up the beef sides.
In 1971 he met his wife Norma Joyce Jones at a church function. They married on May 26, 1972 and remained in Wichita. In January 1974 they welcomed the first daughter, Christina. In May 1975 the welcomed another daughter Loralee and In December 1980 welcomed a little boy, Dwayne.
He worked with his father and brother for awhile but felt God telling him to go to Boeing. In 1982 he went to work at Boeing/Spirit, eventually retiring from there in April 2019.
He loved the kids and always worked with them in some capacity at church. He was also the youth leader for several years.
A friend convinced him to play Santa out at Towne West Mall. He loved it and continued to do it for several years. Also parties, company functions, parades and even a commercial.
He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Jones, Mother Faye Jones Hawkins, one son Dwayne and one daughter Christina.
He is survived by Joyce of 49 years; daughter Lori (Shawn); sister Genevia (Bo) Shockley; brother Ken Jones (Debi); sister Joyce Schmidt (Dave); brother Darryl Jones (Kelly); sister Becky; 5 grandchildren, James Gallardo (Kelsey), Nathan Gallardo (McKenzie), Cody Virbeck, Aalijah Glenn and Deven Glenn; 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Olivia, Stella, Eli, Amelia and Lux; and lots of nieces and nephews and a host of friends everywhere.
A visitation for Dennis will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E 13th St N, Wichita, KS 67206. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 10:30 am at Hope Church, 2000 S. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67211.
