Pastor Dewitt Cornelius Hayes Sr. Was born in Boley Oklahoma on July 1, 1938 to Mr. Enoch and Helen Hayes. He was the fourth of eight children. His parents proceed him in death, as well as four siblings, sisters Mildred Hayes, Wanda Paxton, Edna Hayes, brother Enoch Hayes Jr.
Dewitt professed his hope in Christ at the age of twelve at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Boley Ok. under Pastor Tomlin. At age seventeen Dewitt left Boley on his own and went to Oklahoma City.
Three years later he met and married Oralee Terry on July 12, 1958. To this union seven children were born. Three proceed him in death, Terry Kent, Jerry Brent, Felicia Ann Hayes.
Also preceding him in death were his grandson Christopher Pittman Jr., his nephew John Paxton and niece Cherrye Lemon.
In 1967 Dewitt moved his family to Wichita, Kansas. He worked at Cudahy Packing House, Excel and he retired from Dold Foods. He united with the Strangers Rest Baptist Church under Pastor C. B. Brookings. There he served as a deacon, worked on the usher board, and sung in the choir. In 1978 he accepted his call to the ministry, and served as an associate under Dr. A. L. Scott. In 1989 Rev. Hayes united with the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor T. L. Wade. In November 1988 Rev. Hayes began a mission being led by the Holy Spirit at 2928 E. 26th st. In April 1990 Pastor T. L. Wade and Rev. F. K. Simmion ordained Pastor Hayes, and installed him as Pastor of the Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas where he served faithfully as Pastor. Pastor Hayes with the help of God almighty has accomplished many things during his life span. So the work he has done is speaking and will continue to speak for him throughout eternity.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His wife Oralee ("Doll"), his son’s Rev. Dewitt C. Hayes Jr.
(Edrea), Jerome Hayes ( Mikki) both of Wichita Ks., his daughters Teresa McGill (Warren),
Linda Hayes, both of Wichita, KS, sisters Queenester Tootle (David) of Las Vegas, NV, Lurlene Hayes of OKC, brother Raymond of OKC, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces,
nephews and friends.
