Kim and family,

I was out of town that week and missed seeing the obit. So sorry for your dad's passing. I didn't particularly know him when we were in school, but got to know him these past 10-12 years as he subbed at Riverside. My youngest thought he was the best sub ever. He was a great supporter of education and those he called "his" kids. My prayers are with you. Hope to see you at the 40th next September.

Kim and Kurt-I just learned of your Father's death today. Sorry to hear it. I would see him occasionally at the grocery store, and he was always friendly. He was definitely a good representative of the Greatest Generation.

Dear Kim and family...I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.  I loved running into him when he had been to Lawrence visiting you. Mom, Joyce and I regret that we were not able to attend Don's funeral service. I remember Don and Joan as one of my favorite sets of "2nd" parents who helped raise all of us kids at University Friends Church. Don approached life with humor and an onery twinkle in his eye.

Rest Donald, until you hear at dawn,

Ashley, I had been out of town and just heard on Friday about your granddad. I am so sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I did not know your father/grandfather, but I honor any veteran of his generation.  You should be very proud of his service to our country.  God Bless.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Henrichs family - Don was one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and he will be missed. He had a big impact on my life as a kid growing up in the old neighborhood.

I met Don about a month ago in the Gordman's East parking lot.  He saw that we could not fit a large picture in our car, so he came over and said, "I'll take that to your house for you, if you'd like."  We found out that he lived just a few miles from us, so we took him up on his offer.  He knew just where we lived because after the war he told us that he worked for the gas company, and he helped set the meters in our neighborhood.  We had an instant bond when we discovered that we were both elementary teachers, especially since OK Elementary was just down the street from where he lived and his kids attended there.  I added his name and number to my substitute list and planned to call him the first time I needed a substitute.  Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to call on him or thank him in writing.  He was such a kind soul, one that you knew you could trust.  Every time I look at the print on the wall, I will remember Don Henrichs and his kindness.  It was an extreme pleasure to meet him.

I grew up on 20th street and was one of many kids that always enjoyed visiting the Henrich's and rolling down the hill in the front yard. (It wasn't much of a hill, but we loved it anyway!)Don always referred to me and my friends as Trouble 1-2 &3. He was a great neighbor and friend. He will be missed and remembered fondly. My prayers are with you all.

The Henrichs were our wonderful neighbors on McComas.  Our thoughts are with your family. (Kim, don't miss the 40 yr reunion!)

To the Henrichs family.. Mr Henrichs was my kids teacher when he was at woodland.. and also when he would sub at woodland he had my grandkids.. He was always a nice man.. i seen him last at a north high game and he always asked about my kids.. he will be missed..

To Don's family:  We met Don at Marion Lake 5 years ago, when he still had his big motor home and boat. We would meet him at the Lake a couple times a season, fix him a steak, and enjoy his company,We   also met him at his home and went out to lunch a few times.  He was a wonderful man, and we loved to talk and listen to him.  He will be missed.  We did buy a few Christmas ornaments at his sale, and as a memorial to him they will be hung on our tree every Christmas.  We can not attend the visitation and service for Don, as our Granddaughter is getting married at that time, but we will be there in thoughts. Our condolences to all of you, he was a terrific man. What a  great substitute teacher Mr. Henrichs was.  My children had the blessing of having him at Riverside Elementary and they looked forward to having him fill in for their teacher.  He went above and beyond what a sub should do.  He even took time in the summer to come to TRC to cheer on his "kids"at swim meets. He was a true blessing here on earth!

Don taught our children well and by understatement led many of his students to enlist in the Air Force so that their education would come in part from beyond the class room...he is a tought act to follow

Dear Henrichs Family - Mr. Henrichs was my 4th grade teacher at Woodland Elementary, and my dad always did plumbing work for him.  He was the sweetest person I know and I am very saddened to hear of your loss.  I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Kay, Ashley & Ethan;  I am very sad to read of the loss of your father and grandfather.  I met him when he would substitute teach at Woodland Elem and found him to be a very kind and caring man as well as a great teacher.  He was also extremely proud of his family.
