78, born in Norborne, MO to Rolla and Mary Lou Childs on Jan. 13, 1938, passed away Dec. 22, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a retired banker who never knew a stranger, loved watching sports, and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary, and brother, Eldred "Chili". Earl is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Jeff Childs of Wichita; daughter, Amy (Alan) Stone of Benton; bonus son, Tim (Rhonda) Gerhardt of Topeka; bonus daughter, Sheri Gerhardt of Florahome, FL; brother, Norm (Pat) of Sedalia, MO; and grandchildren, Gunnar Stone, Ariana Stone, Luke Gerhardt; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Mortuary on Tuesday, December 27 from 6-9 PM. His funeral service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church on Wednesday, December 28th, 2016 at 10:00 am with interment at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N Tyler Rd, Wichita, KS 67212. A special thanks from the family to the Cancer Center of Kansas, Dr. Moore and nurses.
