

83, died May 3, 2016 after struggling with cancer for six months. Edna passed away peacefully with family at her side, while in hospice care at her son’s home in Topeka, KS. Born to Velma Hayes (Lemon) on Nov. 18, 1933 in Kensington, KS, Edna was raised in that area by her mother and four doting uncles, until 1950 when she moved to Dodge City, KS to stay with her Aunt Opal and Uncle Raymond Nonemaker’s family while she attended Dodge City High School where she met her future husband Larry Carroll. She was, and remained, close to the Nonemakers throughout her entire life. Following their graduations, Edna and Larry married on July 27, 1952, moving to Wichita later that year. Their first son Michael was born in 1954, and another, Alan in 1959, followed by Timothy in 1965. For a time between the births of her first two children, Edna worked as a licensed cosmetologist. Three sons and a loving husband answered to her lifelong ambitions of having a family of her own. Survivors include her husband Larry, brother Richard (Janet) Lemon, sisters Elda Lovin and Cleta (Gary) Smith, sister-in-law Marion Lemon, sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Mary Carroll, and sons Michael (Victoria), Alan (Teresa), Timothy (Junqian), and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, step-brothers Donald Lemon, brother-in-law Leroy Lovin, aunt Opal and uncle Raymond Nonemaker, uncles Merle, Youal (Edna), Darrell (Mary Jane), Wayne (Eula) Hayes, in-laws Theodore and Phyllis Carroll, sister-in-law Maxine (Leo) Sams, brothers-in-law Phillip (Betty), Robert, John “Buster” Carroll. Visitation will be at Resthaven Mortuary from 5:00 PM unitl 8:00 PM on Fri. May 13. The funeral will take place at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel at 11:00 AM on Sat. May 14, to be followed by graveside services. In lieu of flowers, Edna requested that donations be made to Lifeline Animal Placement and Protection, care of Resthaven Mortuary. After the services, there will be a reception with plenty of time for reminiscing and conversation, two pursuits which Edna took great pleasure in.
