

Edward Phillips Lyon, 94, died at home on February 6, 2012, in his favorite room, built with his own hands, in the home to which he and his wife had brought their two sons at their birth. Born January 14, 1918, in Amarillo, Texas, his family later moved to Topeka, Kansas. At age 24 he moved to Wichita for a job at Boeing, later working for Insurance Services until retirement. He met his wife, Eletha, at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Wichita and they were married there on September 26, 1943. He remained an active member until his death, serving in many leadership roles, volunteering his time and services for many years. Drafted by the U.S. Army, he served in the Counter Intelligence Corp. in Japan until the wars end. He was married to his wife for over 68 years and had two sons both still of Wichita. He served his country; worked hard for a living; supported his family; sent his sons to college and lived a long and healthy life. We should all do so well. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Eletha; two sons, Ron and Roger (Molly) Lyon; Grandchildren: James (Safia); Erin (John) Ludwig, and Scott Lyon; Great-Granddaughter, Olie Lyon, and new Great-Grandsons, Bodie Ludwig and Ozzie Lyon. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur and Gertrude Lyon; sisters, Betty Murrow of Topeka, KS and Dorthy Cox of New Orleans, LA; and recently, his daughter-in-law Sandra Lyon, wife of son, Ron. Service is Thursday, February 9, at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N Broadway, Wichita, beginning at 11:00am. Visitation with family will precede the service beginning at 10:00am.
