   Seeing pictures of Gary with his daughters on their wedding days reminded me that at one time it was very different.
   Jenna was a  baby, less than 6 months old and Kelcie and Stephanie were 2 tiny little girls who would come running, yelling "Swing me daddy!"
   The first time I heard this, Gary got this huge grin and I thought well what did he come up with now since we were inside and the girls had just had their baths. Kelcie was wearing a long pink nightgown and turned so she was facing away from him. She crossed her arms over her chest when Gary asked her if she was ready and he started swinging her. This was not an airplane, over the head zoom around the room thing, or pick her up under the arms and just swing her around. Gary bent over pickled her up, just above the knees and started swinging her upside down between his legs. Her hair was flying, her head  would barely clear the floor as she went back between his legs and then she would come flying back up toward the ceiling. He did this a few times and then set her back up on her feet and it was Stephanie's turn while she wobbled around the room and recovered. Stephanie's swing was just as wild and Gary was laughing the whole time. 
   He did this between the two girls for maybe 15 or 20 minutes at the most and Susan never blinked an eye and told me this was a routine thing. What I remember the most, besides how much fun they were having, was the complete trust in those girls' eyes because they knew they were safe in daddy's hands.
   My brother was truly a remarkable man and I will never forget this or him and his love for his family.

I first met Gary and his family in early 1994 when they were stationed in Ft. Riley. Darlene and I hadn't been together long when we drove up that night with Cassandra to meet them. Right away, Gary and Susan were so warm and welcoming. It was like coming home to old friends. And the girls! Just babies at the time! So precious and cute. 

I was really into Major League Baseball at the time (Go Braves!) so Gary said, "I've got something to show you" with that devious grin he always wore.  We go down into the basement I believe and he shows me literally tons of baseball cards. Immediately I start asking him a million questions about how do you know what they're worth, what is the best way to find the best cards, etc.  Gary's face lit up and my education on baseball card collecting was off to the races. 

After spending some time with me going through the ends and outs; Gary and I loaded up and headed down to Wal-Mart to buy my first box of baseball cards. We get back to his place and spend probably what seemed like hours to Susan and Darlene going through each pack one by one. I pulled a Frank Thomas card, The Big Hurt, that night and I was on top of the world with excitement. Gary and I were going to be instant millionaires, pulling baseball cards at a kitchen table in Junction City, KS Haha. 

I still have that card to this day and the great memories to go along with it. You couldn't pay me enough for either.........

Thank you guys for taking in a complete stranger and making him feel like a part of the family instantly. Godspeed, brother. You will be sorely missed..........
