

Jimenez, Gavino Charles, 69, custodian for the Wichita Public School district, passed away January 12th, 2015. Gavino loved music. He enjoyed a full range of music, but jazz and big bands such as Glen Miller were his true favorite. He collected records over the years and never would switch to a cd player. His love of music extended to playing it, and he became a drummer. He played in several clubs around Wichita in his lifetime and enjoyed every minute of it. Gavino also enjoyed taking fishing trips and later in life he would cast his line right out of his apartment window. Gavino’s greatest love was for his family. He was a loving father, grand-father, and doting great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by parents, Leopold and Isabelle Jimenez, brothers, Manuel Jimenez and Leopold “Smokey” Jr., sister, Phyllis Rodriguez, and great-grandson, Gabriel Pottorff. Gavino is survived by his daughter, Maurita (John) Hassler; grandchildren, Kena Pottorff, Melissa Arroyo, Damon Pottorff, Chavez Pottorff, and Chaz Hassler; brother, Louis (Vonda) Jimenez; sister, Loretta (Frank) Steineger; and great-grandchildren, Tatiana, T.J., Lilyana, Aliah, and Cruz. There will be an informal visitation between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 16th, 2015 for friends and family. Rosary with funeral mass following will be held at St. Joseph Catholic church 10:30 a.m. Mon. Jan. 19th, 2015. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church 145 S. Millwood Wichita, KS 67213.
