

She was born July 13, 1918 in Peoria Oklahoma, to Charley Levi Nichols and Dora Elizabeth Shields. Gladys moved to Miami, Oklahoma to attend school in 1932 and graduated from Miami High School in 1935. She married G. Morris Jackson, of Miami Oklahoma, in 1940 and moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1942, where Morris was employed by Boeing.
During World War II, she was proud to be among the first civilians to be employed by the Army Air Corp to work as an inspector at the Beech Aircraft factory. The Army Air Corp later became the US Army Air Force. She continued that position until the birth of her son, Ronald M. Jackson.
Following the birth of her son, she was active in various service organizations, such as Story League, Cub Scout Den Mother and the League of Women Voters. Throughout her life she participated in a variety of hobbies, including cake decoration, crocheting, spoon collecting, genealogy research and water aerobics. After communicating with her state legislators supporting retention of funding for Meals on Wheels, Gladys was chosen to be in a T.V. commercial for Meals on Wheels.
Gladys graduated from secretarial school and became an Executive Secretary at Fox – Meyer Drug Co. She retired from Fox – Meyer Drug Co. after 18 years. During retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited nearly every state and much of Canada.
Faith in God and love of Jesus was important to Gladys. She was active in her church, and at the time of her death, she was the oldest as well as the longest continuous member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, Wichita. While in the long term care facility she was able to keep in touch with her Immanuel Sunday School class by use of conference calls.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, G. Morris Jackson; parents; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Iris) Jackson of Wichita, KS; sister, Bonnie Hayter of Joplin, MO; granddaughter, Jennifer (Douglas) Teetzen of Payette, ID; two great grandchildren, Rachel Teetzen of Fruitland ID and Tyler Teetzen of Payette ID; and one great-great grandson, Timothy of Fruitland, ID.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gladys' memory may be sent to, Immanuel Baptist Church, 1415 S. Topeka Street, Wichita, Kansas 67211.
Memorial service for Gladys will be held 1:00PM on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
