

Shumway, Grace Lawson, passed from this life on April 21, 2011. She was born December 20, 1915 in Trinidad, Colorado to Willard and Ola B. (Meade) Lawson. She was a licensed Assemblies of God minister, receiving her credentials in 1937 with the Rocky Mountain District. She attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Enid, Oklahoma, where she met Rev. Charles W. Shumway. They married May 26, 1940. Together they pastored in Corwin, Kansas, Edna, Kansas, Haskell, Oklahoma, as well as two churches in Wichita; Douglas Avenue Assembly of God for eighteen years and Trinity Assembly of God (Now Believers’ Tabernacle) for seventeen years. Grace is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles, and her sister, Zella Lawson Trent of La Junta, Colorado. She is survived by her son, Rev. Dean Shumway (Carolyn) of Wichita, her daughter, Sherry Shumway of Wichita; one granddaughter, Sandra Rodriguez (Joe) of San Antonio, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Kristina Rodriguez, Deana Rodriguez, both of San Antonio and four nephews, Jim Trent, Harry Shumway, Tom Shumway and David Shumway. Visitation will be Friday, April 22 at Resthaven Mortuary from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Service will be held at Resthaven Chapel April 23, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. The family thanks her caregivers at Lakepoint Nursing Center and Good Shepherd Hospice Care. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
