

Helen R. Scherer, 84, retired Central Community Church receptionist, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, went to her eternal home in Heaven on July 9, 2023, surrounded by all of her children.
Helen Rose was born January 5, 1939, to Gerald and Pauline Miller. She was the 5th of 6 children having 4 older siblings: Pat, Jerry, John, and Barbara, and one younger in sister, Almeda.
She graduated from Wichita North High School in 1957 before meeting Orville "Pinky" Scherer, from Piqua, Ohio, "The Love of Her Life," while he was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on February 14, 1961 and together, she and Pink had four children: Bruce, Brent, Angee, and Jeff.
Helen loved her family, immediate and extended. She enjoyed Friday evening get-togethers with her family and Sunday dinners were a family tradition. All were welcome. She touched many people throughout her life with her faith and generosity.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents: Gerald and Pauline Miller; husband, Orville "Pinky" Scherer; sister, Pat Roth; brother, Jerry Miller; sister, Almeda Miller; and grandson, Devontrez Collier; Great Grandsons, D'Angelo and Deion Dixon. She is survived by her children: Bruce (Connie) Scherer, Brent Scherer, Angee (Victor) Collier, Jeff Scherer; brother, John (Donna) Miller; sister, Barbara (Floyd) Hagins; sister-in-law, Daylene Kiser; 14 grand children; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and generations of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for Helen will be held Monday, July 17, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Central Community Church, 6100 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209, Wichita, KS 67209. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas.
