

Sister Hildegarde (Maryetta Elizabeth), Struble, 96, entered eternal life October 12 at Marian Hall, the retirement home of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Along with three brothers and two sisters, she was born into the family of William M. Struble and Clara M. Struble on June 7, 1918 in Sylvia, Kansas. Her elementary education was at St. Teresa School in Hutchinson, KS where she graduated from the 8th grade. The family then moved to Wichita where she attended Cathedral High School as a freshman. Her high school education was completed at St. Mary of the Plains Academy in Dodge City.
In Sept. 1933 she entered Mt. St. Mary Convent and was received into the Congregation March 19, 1934 with final profession Aug. 15, 1939. Her education continued with a B.A. from Marymount College, a MLS in Library Science from Catholic University, and St. Mary’s Notre Dame with a degree in Sacred Doctrine. She taught 17 years in elementary schools of the Wichita Diocese, was for a time postulant formation director, and then was a librarian and taught library science at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City. She completed her professional career in retirement by working in Mt. St. Mary Convent Library.
Sr. Hildegarde was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings. She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to members of her religious congregation she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The homecoming will be Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 3:00 pm and the Wake that evening at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 pm, all at the Wichita Center of the Congregation of St. Joseph, 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, KS 67218.
