James "Jim" Ronald Opfar, age 82, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025. He was born January 3, 1943, to Floyd James Opfar and Lyda Rebecca (Paquet) Opfar in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.
At a young age, Jim’s family moved to Salamanca, New York where he grew up and finished high school at Salamanca High. At 19, due to his father’s transfer, Jim and his family relocated to Derby, Kansas. Jim worked several jobs over many years, met the love of his life, Patricia, and after 13 long years they welcomed their son, Vincent.
Jim retired from Huttig Corporation as a Sales & Service Rep. and also from Associated Lumber. Eventually, he couldn’t stand the thought of not working and came out of retirement to work for Lakeview Funeral Home, as a Funeral Assistant working alongside his son, Vincent. Jim finally retired for the last time and spent his days with his family. He loved fishing, working on projects, anything to do with nature including feeding his birds and squirrels, watching t.v., spending time with his grandson and above all else, family.
He was a preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lyda Opfar; son, Floyd Opfar; and sister, Linda Myers.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Opfar; son, Vincent (Brittany) Opfar; grandson, Vincent Jr.; brother, Floyd (Victoria) Opfar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many dear friends.
Funeral Service for Jim will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, May 17th, 2025, with one-hour prior visitation from 11:00AM to 12:00PM, at Pleasantview Baptist Church, 1335 North Buckner Street, Derby, Kansas 67037. Entombment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in the Mausoleum, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to St. Labre Indian School, 112 St. Labre Campus Drive, Ashland, Montana 59004, And/Or to Pleasantview Baptist Church, 1335 North Buckner Street, Derby, Kansas 67037.
