Jerome R. "Jerry" Fiegel, age 84, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Jerry was born on March 20, 1939 in Cunningham, Kansas the son of Elmer and Esther (Renner) Fiegel. He was the third child of six born to this union. Growing up, Jerry and the family lived on a farm. He and his brother, Don were inseparable. Jerry graduated from Community High School of Lane County in 1957.
On May 23, 1962 Jerry graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary of the Plains College. He worked at Parks High School as an English teacher until joining the United States Army in April of 1964. Jerry was honorably discharged in April of 1966. After leaving the military, he went to work in the aircraft industry painting airplanes.
On January 31, 1967 he married Ruth Helen Luther in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He took an active role in raising her three daughters, Debby, Linda and Barbara. Ruth died on November 1, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings: Maggie Shaul and Tom Fiegel.
Survivors include his daughters: Debby Moore, Linda Ratcliff, Barbara and husband, J.T. Thomas; siblings: Don and wife, Beverly Fiegel, Sr. Esther Fiegel, Carolyn and husband, Eddie Herman; grandchildren: Loni and husband, Donald Hosking, Krista Burr and husband, Mike Hamilton, Mechell and husband, Cody Wentling, Amy and husband, John Stanphill, Kristy and husband, John Appelhans, Larry and wife, Laura Ratcliff, Jessica and husband, Matt Fagan, Amanda and husband, Jeremy Meyer; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 13 at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita. Rosary will be 9:30 am with a funeral mass at 10:00 am Monday, May 15, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 645 N. 119th Street West, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory with military honors.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
