

Johnnie A. Taylor, also known as Johnnie Sparks, peacefully entered her heavenly home on August 29, 2023, at the age of 99. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, TX, and passed away in Wichita, KS. Johnnie was a devoted farmer's wife and mother, raising four children while also tending to the farm and gardening.she was actively involved in her church, youth groups, and the 4-H club.
In the 1970s, Johnnie embarked on a new venture and purchased an old two-story building in Iola, KS. With her determination and hard work, she renovated the building and opened Johnnie's Dress Shop, which she had for several years. Later, she decided to pursue a career in real estate, obtaining her license and becoming a successful realtor in Iola, as well as Bullhead City, AZ where they retired.
When her husband's health declined, Johnnie and her husband moved back to Kansas to be closer to family. They settled in Maize/Wichita, where they enjoyed their retirement years. In November 2020, Johnnie's daughter Val moved in with her to provide support during the challenging times of the pandemic.
Johnnie Taylor is survived by her loving children: Valerie Peck (Larry), Vicki Montour (Ed), Ginger Gambill (Tom), and Kent Taylor (Cindy). She is also survived by six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Johnnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester B. Taylor; her parents, Elam and Dona Sparks; her sisters, Ethel Hull, Hazel Martin, Nellie Arnold, Ruby LaMar and their spouses; several nieces and nephews; as well as her granddaughter, Rachelle Montour.
Johnnie's chosen places of worship throughout her life included Salem United Methodist Church in Iola, KS, Dessert Shores Baptist Church in Bullhead City, AZ, and Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wichita.
A memorial service will be held to honor Johnnie A. Taylor's life at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, located at 7901 W. 21st St. N., on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or Grace Cottage at 531 N. Crestline, Wichita, KS 67212 and Phoenix Hospice.
Johnnie A. Taylor will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her dedication to her family, her strong work ethic, and her involvement in her community will be remembered fondly. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
