Joy Montgomery (née Barber), 81, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, in Wichita, surrounded by her family. Born on January 5, 1943, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Joy was the daughter of John and Perle Barber. After World War II, her family relocated to Normandy Blvd in Georgetown, Ontario, where she grew up and attended local schools.

In 1968, Joy married Graham Mills Montgomery in Georgetown, Ontario. The couple had two daughters, Juli and Jennifer. They moved to the United States in 1972, beginning their successful venture into the traffic business, and settled in Wichita, Kansas, with The Gades Sales Company in 1974.

Joy was a devoted member of Westwood Presbyterian Church, actively participating in the choir and forming many enduring friendships. Her passion for music extended to supporting various programs at Wichita State University and other community music initiatives. An avid bridge player, Joy played weekly with close friends for over 40 years. As one of the longest-living heart transplant recipients in Kansas, she was committed to Donate Life Kansas and volunteered with organ transplant patients. Joy was a loving and dedicated wife and mom but her greatest loves, were her three granddaughters and KU Men's Basketball.

Joy is survived by her daughters, Juli (Enrique) Aguiniga of Wichita and Jennifer (Anthony) Mohatt of Andover; and her three beloved granddaughters, Madeline Montgomery Mohatt, Isabella Perle (Izzy) Mohatt, and Sofia Joy Aguiniga. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Graham; her parents, John and Perle Barber; her sister Virginia Ewles; and her brother William (Bill) Barber.

Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 24, 2024 at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 8007 W. Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209. A celebration of life service in Canada is currently pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donate Life or The Music Department at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 8007 W. Maple St., Wichita, Kansas 67209.
