Joan was born on December 16, 1931, in Independence, Kansas, to Theodore and Clara Faye Coukoulis. She was the second oldest of five children. As a young child, her family relocated to Wichita, Kansas, where she spent her formative years. She graduated from East High School and later attended Wichita State University.
In 1950, while working in her father’s restaurant, Joan met the love of her life, Bob Klapprott. They were married on March 25, 1951, and shared 74 wonderful years together — a marriage rooted in faith, loyalty, and enduring love.
Joan worked as a secretary in the aircraft industry until the birth of her first child in 1955. She then embraced her most cherished role as a devoted stay-at-home mother, creating a warm and loving home for her family. An accomplished homemaker, she was known for her exceptional cooking and baking and for her skill as a seamstress, lovingly sewing clothing for herself as well as her two daughters.
Nothing brought her greater joy than having her family together. Whether hosting family meals around a beautifully set table — even during camping trips, when tablecloths were never forgotten — or gathering everyone for puzzles and weekly game nights, Joan created traditions that strengthened family bonds and filled her home with laughter.
Joan was also an avid bowler and remained active in her leagues until the age of 88, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought her beloved pastime to a pause. She and Bob raised their four children in Derby, Kansas, before returning to Wichita in 1984. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, creating cherished memories along the way.
Joan’s life was marked by unwavering faith, quiet strength, unconditional love, and an infectious laugh that could brighten any room. In her final years, she was tenderly cared for each day by her two devoted daughters, whose loving presence ensured her last chapter was filled with dignity, comfort, and peace.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and compassion that will be forever cherished.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Klapprott; her parents, Theodore and Faye Coukoulis; her siblings, Ted and Gary Coukoulis; her son, Brad Klapprott; and grandson, Justin Klapprott.
