Kattie Mae Jefferson was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi to George and Mattie (Bryant) Jefferson on February 18, 1940. She attended school in Mississippi and later moved to Tampa, Florida. Years later, Kattie relocated to Wichita Kansas to be closer to her siblings.
Once in Wichita, Kansas, Kattie worked in the aircraft industry for many years before retiring from the Dole Packing House. After retiring, Kattie had the opportunity to raise her younger children and grandchildren full-time. For many decades, family gatherings were held at Kattie’s home where family members laughed and enjoyed her southern-style home cooked meals.
The memories of her delicious food will forever be cherished in the minds, mouths, and tummies of those who enjoyed her savory food. While Kattie kept her recipes a secret, occasionally she allowed some grandkids to cook with her.
Kattie found Christ at an early age. She was a devoted Christian and member of Greater New Testament Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music and found an interest in the Gospel groups; The Williams Brothers and the Jackson Southernaires.
Kattie was strong-willed, fearless, and independent, yet loving and caring. Her strengths undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges. She will be missed tremendously and remembered by many whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her loving husband W.D. Regular and her parents George & Mattie Jefferson; Children: Eddie Pates, Lawrence Pates and Gerald Regular; Grandchild: Quiana Berry; and Siblings: George “Bubba” Jefferson Jr., Lewis Jefferson, Beatrice Jefferson, Earline Davis, Hommer Jefferson, Louise Hopkin, Mattie Coleman, Sandra Smith, Preston Jefferson, and Roberta Edwards.
