He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lou Evelyn, son Michael (Gwynne) Birzer, daughters Mindy Moon, and Sherie Shaver (Charlie), all of Wichita. He is survived by a brother, Larry Birzer of Meridian Mississippi, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and four sisters.
Upon graduation from High School, Leo enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his military service he earned several medals including the World War II Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Kansas State University earning a degree in architecture in 1953. He spent the next 40 years practicing architecture in Wichita until his retirement. Leo was involved in architecture projects of all types during his career, including such local projects as Century II, and Town East and Town West Malls. Leo served a stint as president of the Construction Specifications Institute. He enjoyed playing golf, and watching Kansas State University basketball and football.
The Rosary is Friday, April 29 at 7:00p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 30th at 11:00a.m., both at Holy Savior Catholic Church, 3000 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS. Military Honors will be performed by the Navy Honor Guard.
