Lois Mae (Wilcox) Duncan was born on February 7th, 1933, in El Dorado, Kansas, and peacefully passed away on February 17th, 2025, at the age of 92 in Wichita at her residence, Ascension Living Via Christi Village McLean. She was the daughter of Roy Eugene and Opal Mae (Dilts) Wilcox, and sister to Maxine, Dale, and Norma.
In her early years during the Depression Era, Lois and her family lived in rural Butler County where she experienced hardships moving from various homes and schools. Eventually, the family settled in Wichita where she later attended Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from East High School in 1951. Lois' best friend, Joan (Duncan) Stoner, thought she would be the perfect match for her brother, Lyndell, who was stationed in Japan whilst serving in the U.S. Navy. After exchanging letters, the pair eventually met and a spark was ignited. They would later marry on December 4th, 1955 at College Hill Baptist Church in Wichita.
Before starting their family, Lois worked at the Kansas State Bank in the loan department for a total of 10 years.
Together, they had three daughters: Lynda, Jessica, and Regina. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. While their daughters were attending school, Lois was an involved parent, often planning multiple school functions, and also serving as the PTA President at Gardiner Elementary School. Even during their musical performances, the girls always knew they would find their mother's face in the crowd.
The family later joined the Emporia Avenue Church of Christ where she served as the church's secretary and was a nursery attendant for many years. Her faith was a strong factor and an important piece in her life. Even in her later years, her devotion to God held a special place in her heart.
Lois had a variety of interests. She enjoyed such things like cooking, bowling, gardening, sewing, puzzles, genealogy, and drawing (specifically horses). She would often find herself playing games on her tablet or watching videos of her favorite critters. She was a true lover of chocolate, and in recent years, strawberry shakes.
She is survived by her children: Lynda and her husband, David Engler of Basehor, KS; Jessica Duncan of Belle Plaine, KS; and Regina and her husband, Martin Wells of Goddard, KS; granddaughters: Emily and her husband, Colin Shaw of Topeka, KS; and Natalie and her husband, Shawn Verratti of Wichita, KS. She is also survived by the many critters in her life whom she saw as her furry grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Opal; her husband of 65 years, Lyndell; her sisters, Opal Maxine Wilcox, and Norma Katherine (Wilcox) Boles, and her brother, Roy Dale Wilcox.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude towards the staff of McLean Assisted Living and Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassionate and exceptional care during her final years.
