

Marian Hollingsworth Parks "Holly", was born to Robert Barclay and Adelaide Eugenia Hollingsworth in Coleman, Texas on December 23, 1929. Her father was employed by Stanolind Oil Company, traveling in his work and taking his wife and daughter along with him; Holly attended twenty schools before the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1942, where she spent the remainder of her life. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1946 and went on to attend the University of Iowa for one year before returning to graduate from Tulsa University in 1950 with a BA in commercial art, which allowed her to use her artistic talent sketching models for the Tulsa World newspaper. She also modeled for a local clothing store in Tulsa. She was married to Bill Shafer in 1950 and together they had three children: son, Chris, and daughters, Terri and Trudy, who passed away in 2019. She was later married to Frank Parks who passed away in 1995. Holly was an avid golfer for 44 years and enjoyed playing bridge in numerous clubs. She loved gardening and was a volunteer in Linnaeus Teaching Garden in Tulsa. She volunteered for United Cerebral Palsy. She was a member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship class for 33 years. She loved making friends and entertaining and was a most gracious hostess. She is survived by Chris (Bev) of Wichita, Terri Haines of Owasso, OK, and five grandchildren: Tyler Rowland (Jina) of Owasso, Jana Rowland Budd (Eric) of Round Rock, TX, Brooke Shafer Allen (Collin) of Wichita, Jesse Smith (Amy) of Tulsa, and Graham Shafer of Kansas City, MO, as well as twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Holly spent the last five months of her life in Glen Carr House in Derby, KS, where she continued to make friends and smile her famous smile. A private service was held for Holly.
