Majorie Lorraine King, 86 years old, passed away May 20, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living in Girard, Kansas. She was born in Opolis, Kansas on November 3,1938. She moved to Alma where she graduated from high school in 1956. Her first job was a Soda Jerk. After graduation, she went to Martin County, Florida and drove a book mobile and sang with friends. She had many fond memories of Florida. Upon returning, she received her BSA from Pittsburg State in 1959.
She moved to Wichita, worked at Boeing, and graduated from WSU in 1972. Upon graduating, she worked as a Primary classroom teacher for 14 years in Wellington, Benton, Weir Gardiner, and Muller schools. From there, she worked as a Title one math Instructional Specialist for 14 years. She always said this was her favorite job with such special people. She worked as an assistant principal in the Wichita school district for a year and a math coordinator for 5 years before her retirement in 1993. She participated in many professional organizations and served as a board member or officer in each.
Marge loved to travel and take many cruises with family and friends. She was a “snowbird” in the winter in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She could always spark a conversation with anyone and make new friends everywhere. She would never miss a special occasion, birthday, or anniversary, with a special card, poem, or handmade gift.
All the kids and grandkids enjoyed the challenge to “find her Christmas check." It was always a laugh! She had many hobbies including: spending time in the yard, working on flower gardens, crossword puzzles, painting, and various crafts. She enjoyed it all!!
When she slowed down, Marjorie could be found with a book in her hand. They loved to go eat daily at Town and Country Restaurant, meeting many new friends. Marjorie enjoyed life, laughing, loving her family, and getting involved.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles King and her son, Derek Ascanio.
Marjorie is survived by Cindy Ascanio and Beth Wimber of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; John and Vicki King of Walnut, Kansas; Teresa and Bruce Deaner of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; sister, Roberta Morrison of Wichita, Kansas; and one nephew.
A visitation for Marjorie will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
A funeral service will occur Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a graveside service following in the Garden of Good Shepherd. All at Resthaven Mortuary and Gardens of Memory .
