Marvel was married to Lewis Edward Armstrong on February 14, 1946 with Lewis's parents in attendance. They were married until Lewis’s death on April 13,1999. They lived on a farm when first married. They were blessed with four children: Bradford Van, Sandra Lynne, Larry Keith, and Jeffrey Wayne.
Marvel and Lewis moved to Indiana after Brad was born. They returned to Sharon Springs after Jeff’s birth due to their parents health issues. They resided in Sharon Springs until the summer of 1967 when they moved to Wichita, where they made their home for the rest of their lives.
Marvel worked as a postal carrier until constant bouts with pneumonia caused her to change occupations. She went to work for Kansas Candy & Tobacco, which she and Mike Larkin bought a year later. She sold her share and retired from there in 1992. A year later, she went to work for Barneys Grocery and Pharmacy where she finally retired in 2017 at age 87.
Marvel was a member of Indian Hills Nazarene Church and taught Sunday School for years. She enjoyed her home, her flowers, her church, and her family and friends.
She was a mom to all, and never knew a stranger. Someone was often staying with her when they needed a place to live. She loved to cook and have family dinners on a regular basis.
