Oak loved all of her family, traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, meeting and socializing with everyone and if she liked you, she would definitely let you know by telling you she loved you even after just meeting and she was very kindhearted and very giving.
Oak opened the first all Asian grocery and gift store "Oriental Food and Gifts" in Wichita on Harry and George Washington Boulevard in 1978, it lasted over 20 years in business. Her years spent owning the store allowed for her to become well known in the Asian community, especially the Korean community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jessie Fortune; sons, Jimme Fortune and Johnnie Fortune; sister, Yong Cha "Tina" Abrahams (Gary); brothers, Bong Su Yon (Young Ja), Yong Su Yon, and Nam Su Yon; son-in-law, John Wong; nephews, Donnie Fortune, Steve Fortune; niece, MiJin Ko.
Oak is survived by her daughter, Donna Fortune Wong; son, Billy Fortune (Brigida "Gigi"); daughter-in-law, Sarah Fortune; sister, Ok Sun McMinn (Brad); brother, Jae Su Yon; sisters-in-law, Ae Sim and Claretta Stevens; nieces, Janice Powell (Mike), Vanessa Dyer (Bryan), Denise Ross, Mihyon Flores (Tony) and Stacey Crow (Rodney); nephews, Deuce Stevens, Hong Ku Yon (Esther), Song Ku Yon, Jin Ku Yon (Natalie); grandchildren, Natasha Checotah- Izumi (Kyle), Nikita Fortune-Wong (Pat Silva), Xavier Wong, Brandon Fortune, Race Fortune, Jennifer Welch (Matt), Jacob Fortune, Jersey Kronk, Briana Rodriguez (Lino), Jordan Kronk, Amanda Montanez (Julian), Jonathan Fortune (Kayla Schroder), Josh Fortune; great grandchildren, Riley, Star, Ryan, Macy, Enzo, Juliette, Jayden, Jessica, Jai, Julie, Juan, Vicente, Elas.
A Celebration of Life Service for Oak will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 16, 2024, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
