Born on March 12, 1934 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Surrilda Golden and Lindsay Rochelle in an era where their mode of transportation was a horse and wagon. She was a product of a Yours, Mine and Ours family and was the youngest of 11. She met Jack at the age of 12 at the community church and after he walked her part way home, she said she was smitten and declared that she was going to marry him one day. Jean and Jack were married January 12, 1952 and moved to Wichita, Kansas where they lived until 2022.
Jean always worked to help support the family. She was a window dresser at Kress Department Store, a clerk for Brick’s Men Store, a clerk at Lewins and her last job was working the service calls for Sears. She finally retired at the age of 74. She loved quartet music and enjoyed going to Quartet singings and conventions with friends from their church until they couldn’t travel anymore. Her pride and joy was her back yard. She would tend her flowers and always weeding.
A loving, loyal wife and a great mother. She was quiet, a great listener and seemed to enjoy Dad’s stories no matter how many times she had heard them. She liked to be in the background and let everyone else do the talking but was always right there when needed. A true Christian and looked forward to being with the Lord and her beloved husband just inside the pearly gates.
She is survived by her daughter Gay Jacobs, husband Bond of Wichita, Ks., and daughter Pam Satterfield, husband Dennis of Sanger, TX. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
