Ora Lee Hayes, 84, of Wichita, Kansas went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at her home in Wichita, KS. Ora was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on August 7, 1939 to Oscar and Roberta Terry. To this union was born two boys and two girls. One boy preceded her in death.
At a early age she accepted Christ. And Joined the Rose Hill Baptist Church. At the age of thirteen she moved to Oklahoma City with her mother. And united the St. John Baptist Church. She graduated from Douglass High School.
Ora, was united in marriage to Dewitt C. Hayes Sr. July 1958. And to this union there were seven children born. Two sons and one daughter preceded her in death.
In 1967 she moved to Wichita, Kansas. She retired from USD 259 with 25 years of service. United with Stranger Rest Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and she loved the Lord.
On August 1989 she united with the Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Dewitt C. Hayes Sr. She was a faithful associate minister, and loved to teach and preach.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her son Rev. Dewitt C. Hayes Jr. (Edrea), Jerome Hayes (Mikki), Teresa McGill (Warren), Linda Hayes-Smith (Anthony) all of Wichita. Sister Johnnye Stewart, of Hugo, Oklahoma, and a brother Clydel Terry of Oklahoma City. And a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm on Thursday March 28, 2024 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS. Celebration of Life service will be 10am on Friday March 29, 2024 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1625 N. Madison Ave., Wichita, KS. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita, KS. In lieu of flower, memorials can be made to Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 20565, Wichita, KS 67208.
