Patricia “Pat” Moran was born Patricia Lousie Bratt on March 14, 1930, in Emporia, Kansas to James and Sylvia (Ford) Bratt. She was the 2nd born of 5 siblings: Dean, Pat, Sheila, Jerry, Phyllis and Jim.
Pat attended East High School and graduated in May of 1948. She met Don Moran at the Roll-O-Arena skating rink on east Kellogg in 1950 and they were the first couple to be married at Pawnee Avenue Church of God on November 28, 1952. That day being the city’s biggest blizzard in history causing roads and highways to be closed. The minister was only able to make it to the wedding from Newton, Kansas because he showed his clergy badge to the highway patrol before they shut down the highway. The wedding started 2 hours late because of it.
Pat and Don made their home in east Wichita near Pawnee Ave Church of God where they worshipped and attended, and she began working at Boeing Aircraft as an executive secretary.
In March of 1954 she gave birth to daughter Gail and in April of 1956 she gave birth to son, Leslie. At 2 years old, Gail was not able to pronounce Leslie, so she called him by his middle name Bruce and that’s what he has gone by ever since.
Pat left Boeing Aircraft and began working in real estate with Herndon Homes. A career that lasted over 35 years with Herndon Homes, Century 21, Coldwell Banker and lastly J.P. Weigand & Sons where she retired as the branch manager for the Derby, Kansas location.
Her many hobbies included gardening, painting, baking, photography, music theater performances, sculpture and various forms of artwork. She was actively involved in her life with many social groups and boards that delt with real estate and the beautification of the City of Wichita. She loved to spend time with her many friends and enjoyed getting together every Thursday with a group of ladies to do individual artwork projects.
In addition to her hobbies, Pat’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. From hosting holiday or birthday dinners at the home to taking the family out to dinner for special occasions or even going on family trips and vacations to Florida, Kansas City, Branson or just to site see the State of Kansas on 3-day weekends, she made sure that the family was together for adventures and creating memories.
