Robert Kenneth Kunze III, 41, was killed in the line of duty on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Robert was a 12-year veteran of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office and prior to that was a 6-year veteran of the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office. He was born March 7, 1977 in Wichita, KS to Bob and Dolly Kunze. Robert was a 1995 graduate of Rose Hill High School, Garden City Community College in 1998 and from Washburn University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He graduated the Shawnee County Sheriff' academy in 2000. Robert was an avid hunting and fishing enthusiast and had a passion for classic muscle cars. He is survived by his wife of 17 years Kathleen "Kat" Kunze and daughter Alyssa L. Kunze of Milton, KS, parents Bob and Dolly Kunze of Udall, KS; Parents’-in-law Dan and Donna Kitch of Garden City, KS, sisters Kerry (Mike) Ashenfelter of Augusta, KS and Jeanne (Jason) Miller of St. Petersburg, FL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kevin & Terra Kitch of Liberal, KS; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his brothers and sisters in blue. Robert’s caring and compassionate nature left such a unforgettable lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be missed by so many that loved him dearly. He was a true warrior. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on both Wednesday September 19th and Thursday September 20th at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m. at Central Community Church, Friday, September 21, 2018. Services led by Dignity Celebrant, Cyndi Pearce.
