Russell L. Meyer

Russ passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born to William J. and Mayme L. (Hamilton) Meyer on March 8, 1929 in Newport, Kentucky. He had one sister, Vilma Webb.

Russ attended Union College and received his bachelor’s degree of Arts Mathematics in 1951. He retired as a Mechanical Engineer.

Russ met the love of his life, Dorothy Lou Bodenstein, when he was 6 years old while playing in a sandbox at church. They were married on Thanksgiving Day at Salem Methodist Church in Newport, Kentucky in 1952 and were married for 73 wonderful years. Three children were born from this union, Debbie, Russ and Wendy.

Russ has attended West Heights United Methodist Church since 1998. He enjoyed senior Olympics and participated in discus, javelin and shotput. He coached the same sports at Friend’s University in Wichita. He also played college football at Union College.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vilma Webb and her spouse Bill Webb. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Meyer; children, Debbie (Tony) Palomino, Russ (Jenny) Meyer, Wendy Meyer; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
