Ruth was born July 16, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas to Robert and Louise Vancuren. She spent much of her childhood in the Viola, KS area. Later she moved with her family to Conway Springs, KS and graduated from Conway Springs High School with the Class of 1968 where she participated in music and theater. She loved nothing more than a good laugh and up until the end was known for her signature wave of “flying the bird”.
Ruth spent a majority of her career at Resthaven Mortuary working in the office. Outside of work she enjoyed music and sang in the community candle lighting service for many years.
Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved dog Stormy, her parents and sister Linda Ingram.
She is survived by: her daughters: Stephanie (Dan) Doffing, Carey (Michael) Hartman and Amber (Brian) Hilger all of Conway Springs, Kansas; sisters: Donna Bates, Mary Braden and Judy Jones; seven grandchildren: Austin, Jacob and Nevaeh Doffing, Michael Hartman III, Caitlin Swaney, Lincoln and Weston Hilger; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Adeline; and many others who chose to call her mom.
Visitation with family will be 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Resthaven Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas on September 20, 2023, at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that a donation be made to the Conway Springs Fire Department or Viola Presbyterian Church. Both organizations showed great compassion for our mother.
