Samps was born to Bryant and Blanche McCown on November 24, 1949, in Odessa, Texas. Samps was raised in Ada, Oklahoma, and graduated from Byng High School in 1968. Sam followed in the family trade as a bricklayer and later in life in foundation repair. He married Carolyn Butler of Ada, Oklahoma, on October 4, 1969.
Samps spent his lifetime enjoying gun collecting and reloading as well as hunting and fishing. But, most of all, Samps enjoyed making memories with his family and friends, around a table filled with amazing food, in a pasture full of four wheelers, or at his annual 4th of July parties.
Samps is survived by his wife, Carolyn of 51 years; daughter, Melissa and husband, Kevin Smith of Frisco, Texas; son, Matthew McCown and wife, Susan of Wichita, Kansas; and his treasured grandchildren, Sam and Jillian Smith and Abigail and Sophia McCown. Funeral Service, 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Lakeview Chapel. Graveside Service, 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at New Bethel Cemetery in Byng, Oklahoma.
