He was a loving and devoted husband, father and papa. Sam served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1985-1992, during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas in 1985, where he met his wife Louwellen “Nikki” Shaffer in April 1986 and married October 1, 1987. After he served his country, he became a General Contractor where he found his love for construction. Sam raised 5 boys to be hard working young men and had a passion for antiques cars and hot rods. He was a member of the Mustang Club of Wichita.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Walker and his in-laws, Lester and Helen Alumbaugh.
Sam is survived by: his wife, Nikki Shaffer of Wichita; brother, Paul Shaffer (Mary) of Ohio; sister, Tammy Shaffer of Ohio; half-sister, Lacey Walker of Ohio; son’s, Samuel Shaffer (Allie) of Wichita, Steven Shaffer of Wichita, Michael Shaffer (Amanda) of Hutchinson, Ronnie Shaffer (Destiny) of Wichita, Keeton Shaffer (Alexis) of Wichita; and 12 grandchildren: Taylie, Sophia, Kenzley, Kennedy, Hudson, Kenton, Westlynn, Marley, Lincoln, Blayke, Ryan and Kinzley.
A viewing for Sam will be September 7th from 5pm-7pm and a service will be September 8th at 1pm at Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. Kellogg, Wichita, Kansas, 67209.
