

Meyer, Shirley, A., 80, daughter of Henry M. Parks and Helen D. (Rice) Parks was born April 30, 1936 at the Parks homestead in Forgan, Oklahoma and passed away on Oct. 18, 2016. Shirley was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church at the time of her death. Shirley attended Friends University from 1954-1958 and was a member of Singing Quakers, Delta Rho Alpha Nu and National Honor Society. Shirley was united in marriage to Eldon W. Meyer at Grace Methodist Church in Wichita on Feb. 7, 1958. Their initial home together was in Spokane, WA, where Eldon worked on the Boeing Sky Speed Team. In 1960 they made their permanent home in Wichita. Shirley started her working career at King Van Lines where she was a Vehicle Qualifications Manager for 25 years. After retiring from King Van Lines, Shirley started her career at Pizza Hut Corporation in the licensing department as a License Clerk and upon her retirement 25 years later she was Manager of Restaurant Development. Shirley served her Lord through her local congregations. Shirley and Eldon were youth group sponsors while living in Spokane. At Trinity Lutheran in Wichita she served as secretary of Aid Association for Lutherans and later serving as President. At Ascension Lutheran Church Shirley was active in choir, secretary for the Board of Directors and chair person for the Nominating Committee. Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, Eldon, sisters, Luetta Conn, Kathrine Whitney, Nellie Fairbank, brother, H.M. Parks, nephews, Mike and Richard Tieszen and great-niece, Chrissi Baerg. Survivors include her daughter, Sheri Meyer and sister, Patty Tieszen, as well as a host of other family and friends including nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces, nephews and their families. Visitation will be held on Fri. Oct. 21, 2016 from 6 to 8pm with family present at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Funeral services will be 10:30am on Sat. Oct. 22, 2016 with viewing one hour prior at Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler Rd., Wichita, KS 67212. Burial will follow 1:30pm at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita. Memorial has been established with Ascension Lutheran Church Music for the Master.
