

Sister Janice Miller, CSJ entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Mt. St. Mary Convent, Wichita, Kansas. Sister Janice was born November 29, 1929, to George and Gertrude (Garrigan) Miller in Kilkenny, Minnesota. The second of six children, she is survived by her Sisters Donna Murphy, Ethel Kotchevar and Catherine Collins as well as numerous nieces and nephews, along with the members of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Sr. Janice was preceded in death by her parents George and Gertrude Miller, her sister Mayone Byron and her brother Harry Miller.
Sr. Janice attended Elementary School in Kilkenny, Minnesota staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph and graduated from Waterville Public High School. She then enrolled in the University of Minnesota Teachers College in Mankato, Minnesota followed by teaching in the LeSueur Public Elementary School System for two years.
Sr. Janice entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in Crookston, Minnesota on September 8, 1950, and pronounced First Vows as Sr. George Anne in 1952. She continued teaching in the Crookston Diocese and in the Archdiocese of St. Paul, Minnesota while obtaining her Master’s Degree from Notre Dame University. In 1970 she returned to her baptismal name (Janice) and returned to the Crookston Diocese as Diocesan Youth Director and religion teacher at Mount St. Benedict.
In 1980 Sr. Janice served in Parish Pastoral Ministry in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Following her three years in Thief River Falls, Sr. Janice helped establish a new Congregational Novitiate in San Antonio, Texas in collaboration with ten other congregations of women and men. She returned to parish ministry in Northwestern Minnesota in 1988.
Sr. Janice was then assigned by Bishop Balke as Pastoral Administrator of two parishes that were without a resident priest. In 1994 Sr. Janice left Minnesota and became a member of the Medaille Congregational Leadership Team with offices in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to the Crookston Diocese in 1998 to resume Pastoral Administration Ministry in Bagley and Two Inlets, Minnesota.
Sr. Janice retired to Woodbury, Minnesota Senior Village in 2005. There she engaged in volunteer pastoral ministry in neighboring hospitals and nursing homes. Her final move in 2010 was from Woodbury to Mt. St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kansas where she engaged in prayer ministry and resided until her death.
Homecoming will be at Mount St. Mary Resurrection Chapel on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with Wake to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with internment following in Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery.
