Velva Jean Whitesel, 86, of Augusta KS, formerly of Hot Springs,
AR went to be with the Lord Friday, November 22, 2019 at her
Eldest daughter & son-in-law’s home in Augusta with her family
surrounding her. She was born April 6, 1933 in Hot Springs, AR to
Nolan Raymond & Vera Ion (Jennings) Cash. She married Doyle
Sheldon Whitesel November 1, 1951 in Anderson, IN. She was
raised in Hot Springs most of her life, but lived a short time in
Albuquerque, NM & Little Rock, AR where she graduated
high school. Velva Jean was a devoted pastor’s wife, mother &
grandmother. She was loved in all of the churches where they
pastored. God gave her a passion for children whom she worked
with throughout their years in ministry. She was always involved
with the music ministry which was enhanced by her talent for
playing the piano & singing. Velva, Doyle & their daughters sang
together while still at home & later involved their own families in
singing together as well. She worked as the church secretary in
several churches they pastored as well as outside the home
throughout their years of ministry. After retirement from full-time
ministry they settled in Hot Springs where she enjoyed 28 years
working at Hurst IncomeTax. While there, she became part of a
close knit family & was loved by many clients & coworkers. She
had the gift of hospitality & opened up their home often. She loved
to bake, cook, & have people over for meals. She loved to decorate
for Christmas which was a wonderful memory for her daughters &
Grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Doyle; daughters
Marsha (Carl) Owen of Augusta, & Sherrie (Jesse) Elkins of
Ottumwa, IA; grandchildren Garrett (Rita) Owen & Lindsey (Ben)
Leath all of Dallas TX, Jessica (Mike) Willis of Christiansburg, VA,
Hannah (Garrett) Weaser of Katy, TX, & Ezekiel Elkins of Ottumwa
IA; great grandchildren Braxon & Seriphina Owen, McKena,
Aundrea, & Adalyn Willis,& Emma Weaser, brother-in-law, Ivan
Epp of Turpin, OK, many nieces, nephews & many special lifelong
friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert
(Sandra) Cash, her sisters, Diana (Dewey) Lambert & Lucretia Epp.
