Vicki was born on November 6, 1937, in Long Beach, California, to Charles Barker and Vera Cleveland. Much of her childhood was spent in Harper, Kansas, where she was raised primarily by her maternal grandparents and grew up surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins—an experience that instilled in her a deep love for family, faith, and togetherness.
On April 12, 1975, Vicki married Duane Patton at Westlink Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas. It was the second marriage for both, and together they blended two families into one lively household that included five children, three homes, seven cars, two boats, a motorhome, and endless shared memories. Their marriage spanned more than fifty years and was marked by devotion, resilience, laughter, and unwavering commitment.
Above all else, Vicki was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. To her family, she was not only a parent but a best friend—someone who loved unconditionally and would do absolutely anything for those she loved. She was known for her joyful spirit and strong personality: funny, happy, dancing, picture-taking, sometimes demanding, and always deeply loving. Though life brought challenges, her family knew they always had each other, anchored by her steadfast presence. As one daughter lovingly shared, while their hearts ache, they find comfort knowing Vicki has gone to be with Jesus and is now dancing and smiling down from Heaven above.
Faith was the foundation of Vicki’s life. After their marriage, she and Duane became longtime members of Central Community Church in west Wichita, where they worshiped for several decades. Vicki was deeply involved in church life and especially cherished her fellowship and service through the Tender Loving Care (TLC) Ministry.
Vicki found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. She loved reading—especially the Bible—praying, dancing, boating, and capturing life through photographs and videos. She took great pride in creating beautiful photo albums and scrapbooks that preserved family moments and told the story of a life rich in love and connection. In later years, she generously supported the Wounded Warriors Project, reflecting her enduring concern for others.
Vicki is survived by her loving husband, Duane Patton; her children Keith Patton, Jeffery Carothers, Michael Carothers, and Valerie Lemons; her grandchildren Joshua Carothers, Matthew Carothers, Jamie Limon, Bailey Quinn, Brianna Campbell, Danielle McAuliffe, and Kristi Patton, along with six great-grandchildren; and her brother Steve Riedel.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Barker and Vera Riedel, her brother Michael Riedel, and her daughter Serena Patton.
Pallbearers honoring Vicki’s life include Joshua Carothers, Thomas Quinn, Raymond Limon, Gary Moore, Gary Munn, and Dale Nice.
