Wanda was born in November 1935 In Kiowa Kansas. Raised by her maternal grandparents, she attended all twelve years of school in Kiowa, graduating in 1953.
While attending high school and working part time at a local restaurant she met a young man from a neighboring town. Romance blossomed leading to the marriage of Wanda to Don McKenzie in 1953 in Anthony, Kansas.
After a few years, they relocated to the Maize area for the remainder of their lives. Their long marriage of 72 years produced a lot of memories as well as two sons, Dan and Jerry, both attended Maize schools through graduation.
Upon their graduation Wanda went back to school, taking classes at Wichita State. This lead to her career in insurance & medical practices, with a long tenure at the practice of Poole & Pollack MD’s. At retirement she had been the office manager for several years. She retired from that role and spent a lot of time in hobbies which included sewing, reading and shopping.
A lot of time was spent with the boys and grandchildren over the years. That involvement led to extensive travel to places across the US and was the source of a long list of stories and (mis)adventures.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Judith Cline and a granddaughter, Crystal McKenzie. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Don McKenzie, sons, Dan (Betty) McKenzie and Jerry (Karen) McKenzie, both of Wichita, Kansas, as well as two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
