Werner "Butch" Carl Teufel

Werner Carl Teufel (aka Butch and Coach) passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Hill Top House, Bucklin, Kansas. He was born to Hugo and Gretchen (Kolk) Teufel in Wichita, KS on December 30, 1938, moving to Dodge City, KS in 1966.

Butch was a graduate of Wichita High School North and Wichita State University with a degree in Secondary Education. He taught Industrial Arts at Dodge City Junior High until that department was phased out and technology was introduced into the curriculum. Mr. Teufel taught Technology until his retirement from USD 443 in 2000. He established the wrestling program at DCJH; coaching first under the auditorium stage, then in the balcony of the gymnasium. Soon after he designed the wrestling room as an addition to the gymnasium. He also coached football and track for the DCJH Cardinals and was an assistant football coach for the DCHS Red Demons. Butch served his country as a member of the Kansas Air National Guard for six years.

On June 11, 1961 Butch married Karen Kimble in Wichita, KS. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. To this marriage a daughter, Shannon, was born, whom he loved greatly. Butch loved his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them as his health allowed and was very proud of each of them.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home, daughter, Shannon (Kris) Meis of Salina, KS, granddaughter, Lauren (Nathan) Cox, grandson Logan Meis (Sopaneda Choun) of North Hollywood, CA, great-grandchildren Cambri and Creed Cox, nephews Hugo (Maritza) Teufel of Broomfield, CO, and Kevin (Shannan) Kimble of Lenexa, KS, five great-nieces and two great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hugo.

A viewing & visitation for Butch will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E 13Th St N, Wichita, Kansas 67206, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
