

Wilhelmina S Powell., 91 on to the next life passed away on October 26, 2012. She was a few months away from her 92nd birthday. Wilhelmina was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a homemaker for many years. Wilhelmina is preceded in death by the love of her life, Henry A. Powell, parents; William and Jesus Garcia (Delucas) Smith, two brothers. Wilhelmina moved to Wichita 65 years ago and became a homemaker. For many years she was hailed for the excellent and delicious BBQ which she prepared for the St. Peter Claver Bazar. Following she cooked for the Priest and the Nuns at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. As a mother and a caregiver she was a gentle disciplinarian. All of her children and grandchildren can attest to the schizophrenic gentle logical discipline. To understand this quirk of character a brief mention her childhood idol, her father. She attributed her style of child rising by the discipline from her father who taught her to love and forgive. She is survived by her sons; Allan (Carol) Lewis, Ronald (Gladys) Lewis, Henry (Marta) Powell Jr. Frankie (Brenda) Powell, daughters; Carol Lewis, Ramona Murdock, grandchildren; Allan Jr., Rebecca, Lori, Mark, William, Ronald D., Alec, Adam, Chris, Jeff, Johnny, Dawne, Jason, Frankie Jr., Dana, Bethany, Christy, Nathan, 32 great-grandchildren. Her family and friends have always been proud of her sense of humor and her passion for love and understanding. Although she will be missed her memory will live on in the generations left behind. Visitation will be held 1-7p.m. with Rosary at 7p.m. Monday October 29, 2012 at Hillside Funeral Home East. Funeral Mass 10:00a.m. Tuesday October 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Kansas Humane Society.
