Wilma J. Kebert

Wilma J. Kebert, 91, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, with her daughters at her side as she met her savior face to face. Wilma was a rock to all those she will leave behind; always full of wisdom, grace, and forgiveness; a devout Christian woman; and adored her family.

Wilma was born on a small farm outside of Fredonia in Wilson County, Kansas, on January 6, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Ruth Lyon. She was the ninth of thirteen children. In 1947, Wilma graduated from Fredonia High School and took a six week course on teaching and began her career at a one room school house at the age of 18. These students included kindergarten through 12th grade. She even taught her younger siblings. Wilma spent 17 years in the Wilson County area educating children.

On March 8, 1952, Wilma married Louis Kebert, in Arkansas. To this union they welcomed three children while living in Fredonia. In 1968, the family moved to Wichita, where Wilma continued her teaching career with USD 259. She taught for 23 more years and retired after 40 years in education. Wilma loved teaching, she loved her students, and they loved her.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Francis Lyon, Kenneth Lyon, Richard Lyon, Lewis Lyon, and Frank Lyon; sisters, Alice McElwain, Annabel Friend, Lucille Harmon, Ruth Scott, and Ellamae Branson.

Survivors include: her children, Vicky and husband, Larry Enochs, Carol and husband, Dwight Williams, Louis Kebert, Jr.; former daughter-in-law, Dawn Kebert; brother, Garrold and wife, Bettye Lyon; sister, Mildred Boster; grandchildren, Julie and husband, Jason Hooks, Chris and wife, Stacia Williams, Larry and wife, Jenna Enochs, Matthew and wife, Jennie Williams, Lindsey and husband, Jerod Yancey, Bradley and wife, Alison Enochs, Louis III and wife, Laura Kebert, Jeffrey and wife, Lena Kebert, Dana Kebert; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., with family present from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th Street North, Wichita; funeral service 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, Assembly of God Church, 1102 Washington Street, Fredonia; graveside will follow at Farmington Cemetery, rural Fredonia.
