Garold Leslie Rutherford

1924 – 2023

Garold L Rutherford passed away in The Villages, FL on December 19, 2023 at the age of 99. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family and friends that he made over his lifetime.

Garold was born on July 19, 1924 in Iowa Falls, IA to Thomas and Grace Rutherford. He enrolled in Coe College after he graduated high school.

Garold served in the US Army in Europe during WWII. He was drafted into the army at Camp Dodge in Des Moines Iowa on April 22, 1943. He arrived in England on December 12, 1944. The first battle that he took part in was in St Nazaire France on January 1, 1944. He was among the soldiers who liberated Dachau Germany in April 1945. Garold was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946.

After Garold’s military duties he attended the University of Iowa where he received a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. Garold started his accounting career at Collins Radio and retired as a Financial Director and Controller for Rockwell International.

Garold (Army) met Marian E Huddle (Navy) at the University of Iowa after both serving in WWII. Garold and Marian married on June 4,1948. Together they raised three sons and a daughter. He is survived by his son Tom (Sue) of Gig Harbor, WA and his daughter Ann (Robert) of The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian and sons Doug (Elizabeth) and Brad Rutherford.

Garold/Grandpa was loved by several nieces and nephews, five grandkids, and four great grandkids.

Garold will be laid to rest with his wife Marian at the National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida with full military honors on April 18, 2024.
