

Karen Marie Dunn (Conary), 74, of Oxford, Florida, and Eddington, Maine, passed away at home in Florida on January 26, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 23, 1950, in Castine, Maine. Karen grew up in Deer Isle, Maine, where she was a proud graduate, serving as her class’s valedictorian and being crowned Prom Queen. Karen was also in the chorus and played the saxophone.
Karen graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, and later earned her master’s degree at Walden University. Karen was a devoted educator who spent many years teaching at Charleston, Bangor, Lubec, Danforth, and Hermon. She touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her passion for learning and commitment to helping others. She was also an advisor for the National Honor Society, mentoring many students and helping them achieve academic excellence. In addition to her teaching career, Karen was a coach for Levant Baseball and was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader for many years, shaping the lives of young people and leaving a lasting impact on her community.
Karen had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling the world with her family. Her most recent trip was to Norway, where she shared precious memories with those closest to her. One of her most memorable trips was to the Galapagos Islands, where she experienced the beauty and wonder of nature. She also loved visiting Alaska, a place that captured her heart with its majestic landscapes and wildlife.
While in Florida, Karen enjoyed walking and spending time outdoors, as well as doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku, which brought her joy and a sense of relaxation. In Maine, she found peace at her camp, where she reconnected with nature and with her family. She lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication to those she cherished.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Gregory Dunn; her children; Jennie Ellis and Jeremy Dunn; and her treasured grandchildren, Syndel Dunn, Nathan Ellis, and Payton Ellis. She is also survived by other family, including Debbie and Jeff Snyder, Laurel and Daniel Roy, Meredith and Aaron Dunn, Gardiner and Joann Conary, David Conary, Beverly and Alan Smith, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlotte and Everett Conary.
