Bernice Frances Hammel

Bernice was very giving and always thinking of others. She enjoyed volunteering at her church, St. Bede Catholic Church, as well as at Sentara Williamsburg Hospital. She even spent time volunteering to teach English at the University in Jakarta, Indonesia. Bernice also enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, traveling with her husband over the years, including River Cruises, Europe, and Alaska.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph J. Hammel; children, Susan Hammel, Cynthia Jensen (Jeffrey), Gregory Hammel (Miki), and Christopher Hammel (Sophia); and 6 grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 6-8PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd. Williamsburg, VA 23188. A Mass will be offered Thursday, October 24, 2PM at St. Bede Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Bede Columbarium.
